UF Hillel is a nonprofit organization serving as the Center for Jewish Life at the University of Florida and Santa Fe. As part of the international Hillel network, it aims to enhance the lives of Jewish students by providing opportunities for engagement with Jewish life, learning, and Israel.
Mission and Vision
UF Hillel's mission is to enrich the lives of Jewish students so that they may enrich the Jewish people and the world. The organization envisions a campus community where every Jewish student is inspired to make a lasting commitment to Jewish life, learning, and Israel.
Programs and Activities
UF Hillel offers a wide range of activities designed to promote Jewish identity and community among students. These include:
- Jewish Learning Initiatives: The organization provides various fellowships and internships that focus on Jewish learning, social justice, and Israel. Notable programs include the Jewish Learning Fellowship, Israel Learning Fellowship, and Engagement Internships.
- Community Events: UF Hillel supports student-led celebrations of Shabbat and Jewish holidays. It also offers kosher meals during these observances.
- Student Groups: The organization hosts various interest groups, such as Challah for Hunger, Eco Ambassadors, Gators for Israel, and TAMID, which focus on community service, environmental sustainability, Israel advocacy, and professional development related to the Israeli economy.
Structure
UF Hillel is led by a team of professionals and governed by a Board of Directors composed of alumni, parents, students, and community leaders. The organization operates independently and relies on donations from parents, alumni, community leaders, and Jewish Federations across Florida to fund its activities.
Accessibility
All of UF Hillel's programming is available to current University of Florida and Santa Fe students at no cost. While primarily serving Jewish students, the organization welcomes participants of all faith backgrounds to most events.
