FRIENDS OF THE DALLAS URBAN FOREST
The Urban Forest Advisory Committee was established in 2005 by the Dallas City Council to advise the Mayor and City Council on tree related issues. The Friends of the Dallas Urban Forest is a 501(c)3 organization that was formed to help fund the projects of the Dallas Urban Forest Advisory Committee. Our Mission is to help fund projects that will facilitate the planting and care of trees in the City of Dallas. We encourage homeowner associations to go through the Dallas MOWmentum program to plant trees on public lands (medians and parkways) in their neighborhoods, which uses the Dallas Reforestation Fund to supply free trees for this purpose. The second part of this program is promoting the care of our older, large-canopy trees which can supply up to 70 times more benefits to our community than young trees that are newly planted. It takes both of these programs to increase our air quality in Dallas. By facilitating these projects we will help reduce pollution and thus help save the lives of many children and adults in our city that have respiratory problems."
