Statement on Islamophobic Hate Crimes at UCLA Manara West strongly condemns the surge in Islamophobic hate crimes and harassment targeting Muslim students at UCLA. Over the past several days, students have faced verbal abuse, defacement of religious texts, and intimidation both online and on campus—often in direct retaliation to peaceful student organizing. These are not isolated incidents, but a reflection of rising anti-Muslim bigotry and institutional inaction. We call on UCLA administration to immediately and publicly denounce these hate crimes—not as part of a general call for tolerance, but with a clear and direct condemnation. Muslim students deserve to feel safe on campus, and that safety must not be conditional or delayed. We stand in full solidarity with the Muslim student community at UCLA, and we demand swift action from campus leadership to protect the safety, dignity, and rights of all students. Student Arrests Update 5/15 @ 6:45pm Students at UCLA and UCI commemorated Nakba Day, marking 77 years after the Nakba, forced displacement of Palestinians from their homes. During the on-campus demonstrations, UCPD arrested TWO students at UCLA, ONE student and ONE professor at UCI, and detained an additional FIVE students at UCI. The detained students have been released, however, those that were arrested have been taken to the UCLA Police Department and the Orange County Central Jail, respectively.
