Brentwood Library Foundation
The Brentwood Library Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Brentwood Library. It operates as a public benefit corporation, focusing on enhancing the library's facilities, collections, and programs.
Purpose and Activities
The Brentwood Library Foundation works closely with the community and private funding sources to raise necessary funds for library improvements. These efforts include acquiring additional books, securing laptop computers, funding public art, and supporting enhanced programs and services at the library. The foundation's activities are designed to supplement the resources provided by the city, ensuring the library offers comprehensive services to the local community.
Governance
The foundation is governed by a Board of Directors, which consists of a minimum of seven and a maximum of fifteen members. The Senior Community Library Manager serves as an ex-officio non-voting member. Directors are selected at the annual meeting by plurality vote among existing board members. Each director serves a three-year term and must have a meaningful connection to the Brentwood community.
Financial Operations
The foundation manages its finances through an Executive Committee and other designated committees. Financial oversight includes auditing and reporting requirements, ensuring transparency and accountability in managing donations and grants. The foundation's financial practices comply with relevant laws and its operational bylaws.
Community Impact
Through its fundraising efforts, the Brentwood Library Foundation has made significant contributions to the local community, enhancing library resources and promoting educational and cultural activities. The foundation's support helps foster a vibrant community hub that benefits residents by providing access to educational materials and resources beyond those typically funded by municipal budgets.
