Our short film, “Sàigòn to Seattle,” premiered at Hoa Mai Park on Saturday, May 3rd, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, to nearly 600 people throughout the day! “Sàigòn to Seattle” follows the powerful stories of 5 Little Saigon community members – Hiếu Phùng, Anna Xuân Trịnh, Julie Phạm, Quỳnh Phạm, and OliverVy Nguyễn. Their oral histories represent first-hand experiences and a refugee perspective that is often overlooked and underrepresented. These stories are vital in the work to preserve the cultural home of the Viet community in King County and the persevering spirit of refugees, immigrants, and children born into the Vietnamese diaspora. Families and friends gathered in the park for special speakers and performances by Hướng Việt Performing Arts Group and Phụ Nữ Cao Nguyên Tình Xanh Washington (Women of Evergreen Washington). Additionally, the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods @seattle_neighborhoods Director, Jenifer Chao, presented the City Proclamation to declare April 30, 2025 a day to honor the Vietnamese community in Seattle on the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War. 👀Visit flsseattle.org/saigontoseattle for added historic context, film credits, and info about where to watch the film next! This project is funded in part by 4Culture, the Office of Arts & Culture Seattle Hope Corps grant, and a Neighborhood Matching Fund award from Seattle Department of Neighborhoods (fb)
