"Mark Twain was the largest personality that American literature has produced, and it was really an ideal story because this story has an unusual amount of literary triumph and personal tragedy. It has all the light and shadow that one could possibly want in a biography." In his latest biography,Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ron Chernow examines the life of Missouri's own Mark Twain, and you're invited to join us in St. Louis to see Chernow speak on this literary legend! ✨ 📚 📅 June 28th, 2025 📍 Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center ⏰ 5:30 PM-6:30 PM (Doors open at 5PM) 🎟 https://mohumanities.org/signature-series/ (FREE and VIP ticket options available!) 📰 Read NPR's full interview with Chernow here: https://www.npr.org/2025/05/16/nx-s1-5131322/pulitzer-prize-winning-biographer-ron-chernow-discusses-his-new-book-mark-twain (fb)

As we head into Memorial Day Weekend, Missouri Humanities reaffirms its commitment to honoring and uplifting military voices throughout the year. We’ve partnered with the @stpetersmoarts to invite veterans, active and retired military personnel, and military-connected family members to a free writing workshop on Saturday, June 21. ✍️ Open to writers of all levels—new, experienced, or simply curious—this workshop explores ekphrasis, the art of writing in response to visual works like paintings and sculptures. Participants will draw inspiration from the Centre’s exhibits and engage in guided writing exercises. 🎓 Led by MFA graduates Kent Walker, a combat Army Veteran, and Stacey Walker, an educator at three local colleges, the workshop offers space to spark creativity, strengthen your craft, and explore new ways to express your voice. 👉 Space is limited! Sign up to secure your spot: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/ev/reg/vraa6tk ☕ Light refreshments provided. 📘 Attendees will receive a complimentary copy of "Proud To Be: Writing by American Warriors," an anthology of fiction, poems, and essays by and about those who served.
