Featuring prominently in John Adams’ opera “Antony and Cleopatra”, the Cimbalom is having its moment, and it’s being propelled into the limelight by our newest Met Orchestra Musician (on loan), Chester Englander. A percussionist who has performed in nearly every orchestra under the sun, and with conductors ranging from Gustavo Dudamel to John Adams and working with musicians such as Frank Zappa, the Met orchestra is grateful to hear the Cimbalom played so beautifully in every performance of the opera, opening up our ears to a new tonality.
