Historical Background
The fire department's history is intertwined with that of the Village of Hamburg. Initially, firefighting duties were handled by property owners using bucket brigades. Over time, the department evolved into a more organized entity with the formation of the Hamburg Hook & Ladder Company No. 1 in 1880. This marked the beginning of its formal structure, which has since expanded to include advanced equipment and services[2].

HVFD had the privilege to join the Hamburg Memorial Day Parade. This event is coordinated annually by the Hamburg American Legion Post #527. Thank you to everyone who came out to honor those who have died protecting our country. Our thoughts are with the families of these brave men and women. (fb)

Today wraps up National EMS Week! We are extremely grateful for our EMS providers and ambulance drivers at HVFD who continue to show up and help make a difference in the community. Working in EMS can be physically and emotionally challenging. Patients are not always the nicest to us, but we try our best to help because we are doing this for them. We have seen people in their worst moments that we will forever carry engraved in our memories. We get up from the dinner table with our own families because someone else's family member needs help. EMS is a unique group of people who see so much pain and suffering on a daily basis, but having each other to lean on keeps us going. Our EMS providers are our family. We are there to talk about the tough calls together, be an outlet for frustration after a difficult patient, or cheer each other on for each milestone in their careers. Even with the tough days, they each have the drive to show up with a smile, learn more, and teach others creating a lasting legacy. Our members deserve so much recognition not only today or this week, but all year long. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you EMS providers 💙🤍 (fb)
