In 2018, demolition began on the Bloede Dam, opening a stretch of the Patapsco River previously inaccessible to many species of aquatic wildlife. Originally constructed in 1907, the dam was located in the Avalon area of Patapsco Valley State Park. This June, American Rivers is hosting a four-part webinar series exploring the Bloede Dam removal and the restoration of the Patapsco River. The series will offer technical insight into the project and is open to anyone interested in taking a deeper dive into multiple project components. Register at https://ow.ly/EHvJ50W1Nog Webinar Schedule: Wednesday, June 4 at 1 PM: Navigating Regulatory Review: Introduction to the Bloede Dam Removal, Overview of the Decision-making/Regulatory Process, and Navigating Section 106 Historical Mitigation Wednesday, June 11 at 1 PM: Sorting the Sediment: Sediment Management at Bloede Dam Removal Wednesday, June 18 at 1 PM: Executing the Plan: Dive Down on Bloede Dam Removal Engineering & Construction Wednesday, June 25 at 1 PM: Fun with Fish: Overview of Biological Monitoring on the Patapsco, Lessons Learned, and Group Discussion Photo taken by Emily Carter Mitchell (fb)
