Hands Producing Hope Incorporated
Hands Producing Hope Incorporated is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization designated as a human services—multipurpose and other nonprofit. Its primary mission is to empower women and communities by providing avenues for economic independence, education, and well-being.
History
The organization's journey began in 2010 when its founder, Rebecca, spent time in Costa Rica. There, she encountered the challenges faced by the Guaymi people, particularly the women, who despite facing oppression and poverty, retained hopes for a better future. Inspired by their resilience, Rebecca started conceptualizing a project to help these women by providing a market for their handmade products.
Programs and Activities
In 2012, Hands Producing Hope officially launched by selling jewelry from the Coppey Abajo reservation in Costa Rica through various events. Over time, the organization expanded its scope to include sustainable programs focused on education, physical and mental wellness, and community development. Their initiatives support artisans in receiving a steady income and accessing educational opportunities.
By 2016, the organization had expanded its operations to Rwanda, where they worked with women on Nkombo Island to produce exquisite home goods. This expansion included establishing an adult literacy school and a maternal health education program.
In 2017, Hands Producing Hope began working with refugee women in Baton Rouge, USA. The goal was to integrate these women into community life by teaching artisan skills and providing supplemental income.
Financial Overview
As of recent filings, the organization's revenue primarily comes from contributions and net inventory sales. In fiscal year 2021, contributions accounted for 51.3% of total revenue, while sales of inventory accounted for 48.1%[3]. Hands Producing Hope maintains a transparent financial structure, with the compensation of its executive director being publicly disclosed.
Mission and Impact
The mission of Hands Producing Hope is to foster a movement of thoughtful consumers who value the artisans behind their products. By purchasing from Hands Producing Hope, consumers support dignified work and contribute to empowering vulnerable populations. The organization aims to demonstrate the positive impact individuals can have on communities through responsible spending and engagement.
Overall, Hands Producing Hope Incorporated is committed to promoting sustainable livelihoods and community empowerment by connecting artisans with global markets and offering educational opportunities to those they serve.
