Great news to share for World Turtle Day! Sea turtles need dark, undisturbed sandy beach habitat to survive, but in Florida, almost every beach is lined with high-density development. Our coastal state parks are some of the only pristine beach habitats we have left. This is why when the State of Florida’s proposal to add lodges, pickleball courts, and golf courses last year was announced, residents and visitors were outraged and made their opposition known. Nearly a year later, HB 209 – State Land Management, a bill to prevent a similar proposal from happening, was signed into law yesterday! We are grateful to House and Senate bill sponsors and countless advocates who stood up for Florida’s wild places! (fb)
