The Fred Heutte Center is a public garden, education center and event rental space located in the historic Ghent neighborhood of Norfolk, Virginia. It's a great place to visit, volunteer, take a class or celebrate a special occasion. Come See Us! To provide horticultural education in memory of Fred Heutte & to continue Fred Heutte's wish to enrich our community by sharing his ideals of urban beautification through horticultural education & the maintenance of our memorial building & display gardens; through our lectures, workshops & programs, we normally serve hundreds of attendees & host master gardener projects; however, in Covid epidemic times, that has been difficult. Our organization does not provide grants; all income this COVID-19 year was used to maintain the Fred Heutte Center & surrounding gardens & to continue food production in our heirloom vegetable garden for the Food Bank of Southeastern VA; we produce between 1 to 2 thousands pounds a year; we manage the Fred Heutte Center and surrounding nearly one-acre green-space park under a City of Norfolk, VA community grant; our usual operations either ceased or were severely limited by the required closure of the center at times during the ongoing Covid-19 epidemic
