Crown Center for Senior Living is a nonprofit agency serving senior adults by providing affordable housing and supportive services. Vision:A vibrant and engaged community in which all seniors thriveMission:Honor Jewish values and tradition;Provide affordable, high quality living and services to enable residents to flourish independently; andCreate inspiring programming to enable both residents and other community seniors to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle.History:For 50 years, Crown Center for Senior Living has diligently provided compassionate and comprehensive affordable housing and supportive services for low-income senior adults residing in the heart of University City, MO. Our agency has a solid record of empowering them to maintain an independent, active and healthy lifestyle. Our beginnings date back to 1967 with construction of our first nonprofit affordable housing apartment building; followed by significant expansion in 1995 with a second high-rise apartment building to meet the housing needs for older adults, totaling 244 units housing approximately 275 residents. Given the depth of research documenting that supportive services make a significant difference in the likelihood and extended time in which an older adult is able to age in place - and congruent with federal regulations which prohibit rental income from being used to provide most supportive services - Crown Center, Inc., was established in 1995 as a separate entity from the affordable housing units to deliver tailored programming at little to no-cost for both residents and senior adults in the surrounding neighborhood. Current supportive services include transportation to essential destinations; social work case management, supportive counseling, translation services, health and wellness programs; a Kosher Social Nutrition Program (congregate dining and daily delivery to the home-bound); meaningful volunteer opportunities; and cultural, social, educational, and recreational programs.
