No Trees? Then no forests, then no Umbrellabirds! Actually, the lack of trees will affect far more than the Umbrellabirds. Just to name a few additional species, we can also include toucans, barbets, parrots, and all tree-dependant birds. In addition, forests help preserve waterheads by ensuring the ecosystem resilience. There is a clear need to conserve the rich diversity of trees that make healthy forest. This is why Mindo Cloudforest Foundation, with support from the Franklinia Foundation (https://fondationfranklinia.org/en/), is increasing its efforts to propagate select threatened tree species in the Ecuadorian Northwest. In the picture, we have our field technician Andres Cuascota with a couple of sapplings of the critically endagered (CR) tree Pouteria capacifolia, locally called Tangare. The sapling are ready for planting in sites where they will be protected. (fb)
