Virginia Home for Boys and Girls is a nonprofit organization that has been serving youth in crisis since 1846 Virginia Home for Boys and Girls’ mission is to help youth across Virginia with emotional and behavioral health concerns by facilitating the healing process using a relationship-based, cognitive-behavioral approach. Since 1846, when we were founded as the Richmond Male Orphan Society, VHBG has provided enduring care, stability, and support to generations of Virginia’s children who have experienced neglect, haven’t had their basic needs met, and/or have needed loving, caring adults in their lives. While we began as an orphanage, we are now a comprehensive child and family services organization.

We were honored to attend the bill signing and launch of Virginia’s new “Safe Kids, Strong Families” initiative with Governor Glenn Youngkin and Secretary Janet Kelly on May 15. This bold reform effort—backed by bipartisan legislation and a $1M study—aims to transform child welfare across Virginia by advancing kinship care, reducing congregate care, and empowering foster youth. As a provider of trauma-informed programs supporting for young people (11–21) in foster care, VHBG is proud to help shape these critical next steps.
