From fleece to fabric! 🐑✂️ Sheep sheering season has arrived at Colonial Williamsburg, marking the beginning of a historic craft tradition. Did you know? After the wool is carefully shorn and skirted, it’s sent to our historic weavers where they transform these tangled masses of wool, as well as flax and cotton, into precise fabrics. This can range from simple linens for shirts and shifts to blankets, towels, dyed wool for needlework, and stout woolens for military uniforms. (fb)

A tale of twin tables. 👯♀️ On display at the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg is a ‘bureau table’ attributed to cabinetmaker Peter Scott that is a remarkable duplicate of one at George Washington's Mount Vernon. The Art Museums' bureau table carries a tradition of having belonged to Patrick Henry, who may have used it in the Governor’s Palace during the Revolutionary War. Peter Scott was one of Williamsburg’s most prominent cabinetmakers in the 18th century. He created furniture for some of the most influential Nation Builders, including Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry. Across six decades, he built a legacy through his steady woodworking output and his Williamsburg shop produced an array of desks, bookcases, tables, and coffins, a few pieces of which survive today in Colonial Williamsburg’s collections.
