We'll be discussing the TED talk "The Danger of a Single Story" by Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and what the students feel are some "single stories" about their own lives. After the Pause of 2020, @picturechange is back in action! My Vision:My Voice Nashville was inspired by the growing movement to elevate BIPOC stories and raise awareness of issues facing communities of color throughout the United States. This class, in partnership with @harvesthands and @cedrickphoto , will provide students with a means of empowerment through photography, giving them the opportunity to move from the subjects of stories in the media to the role of storytellers, and involve their neighborhoods and the broader Nashville community in the process. Most of these students reside in the Napier-Sudekum community, one of three districts in Nashville with the highest rates of violent incidents among youth. We’re still looking for quality digital cameras for our students to use throughout the project, so this is a perfect opportunity to give your old gear some new life and empower others!
