Picture Change provides photography education and resources for students in developing communities to reclaim authorship of their story through the camera lens. We focus on sustainability of the program through student leadership and community involvement, entrusting the donated camera gear to our local partner organizations and empowering students to educate others and earn an income through their new skills.

We'll be discussing the TED talk "The Danger of a Single Story" by Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and what the students feel are some "single stories" about their own lives. After the Pause of 2020, @picturechange is back in action. My Vision:My Voice Nashville was inspired by the growing movement to elevate BIPOC stories and raise awareness of issues facing communities of color throughout the United States. This class, in partnership with @harvesthands and @cedrickphoto , will provide students with a means of empowerment through photography, giving them the opportunity to move from the subjects of stories in the media to the role of storytellers, and involve their neighborhoods and the broader Nashville community in the process.
