Why does our community need a non-profit like Beyond Homeless? There is no profit in helping a shelter resident sit silently through a therapy session until they're ready to talk. There is no profit in keeping someone housed when their rent outpaces their income. There is no profit in making sure elderly neighbors have enough food to eat. The market doesn't go where money can't be made. The state and federal government, defunded and often outsourced, too often can't or won't . That's where Beyond Homeless shows up. Not because we're efficient. Not because we scale (We currently can't, but really need to) But because someone has to. The work IS the person on the other end. A young person in crisis. A grandmother being evicted. A single mom trying to keep her family together. Beyond Homeless isn't the story. The people we serve are. We aren't inefficient. We're serving where the market fails. We don't need to profit like businesses. We need to be funded to do what businesses can't. We show up. We stick around. Most importantly... We hold the line when everything else lets go.
