San Antonio Tamil School Inc. is a 100% volunteer-based non-profit tax-exempt organization dedicated to teaching the Tamil language and nurturing Tamil culture in children. Founded in 2005 by a group of passionate parents, the school aims to provide a structured educational environment for members of the community interested in learning Tamil.

History

The school was established to teach the basics of the Tamil language, enabling children to communicate effectively in their native tongue. Over time, it developed a systematic approach to teaching Tamil, focusing on reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the language. Initially, the school followed the curriculum developed by the American Tamil Academy (ATA). However, starting from the academic year 2023-24, it shifted to the Texas Tamil Academy (TTA) textbooks, which align with the Texas Education Agency's (TEA) Language Other Than English (LOTE) Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

Curriculum and Classes

Students can advance through levels based on performance and age criteria.

Accreditation

San Antonio Tamil School is accredited, which is crucial for recognition by local school districts and enabling students to earn high school credits for learning Tamil as a Language Other Than English (LOTE). This accreditation also aligns the school's standards with those of regular local schools.
