Interested in being a part of a Rehoboth Beach tradition? We're looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to help us run our annual Outdoor Show in Henlopen Acres during the first two weekends in August (August 2-3 & 9-10). Volunteers will be stationed across the RAL campus and will be responsible for tracking entry numbers, handing out event pamphlets, and greeting attendees. You will also provide breaks for artists and walk around the grounds, giving any assistance needed. We also need people who can lift heavy objects to help with the set up and take down of the event tents. 🥳💐 Let’s hear it for our volunteer! RAL volunteer and trustee Matt Gaffney was recently honored at the 2025 Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards for his outstanding contributions to our nonprofit organization. While Matt serves on our Board of Trustees, he also volunteered more than 200 hours of his time last year towards our historic gardens and grounds, coordinating a team of volunteers that seasonally helped to beautify our property. A master gardener himself, Matt has given life to Homestead Garden—originally designed and installed by the league’s founder, Louise Corkran in the 1930s—which, after many years, became overgrown. Not only did he spearhead the redesign of the formal garden, reinstalling many historic species from the early years, but helped expand it with beneficial native plants. Matt has also undertaken fundraising for RAL in a variety of ways. His successful grant writing resulted in funds that allowed our volunteer garden group to install a new Native Demonstration Garden adjacent to the pottery studio. He helped our nonprofit to partner with the Delaware Master Naturalists, resulting in the creation of a new campus tree map that visitors can enjoy on a self-guided walk. Finally, he led the creation of the league’s first Native Plant Sale last fall, which offered the community educational opportunities about the benefits of native species.
