New Jersey will soon be one of only six states that still require students to pass a standardized exam to graduate from high school. The others are Florida, Louisiana, Ohio, Texas and Virginia. Why have so many other states - including Massachusetts and New York - eliminated this requirement? Because all the research says it doesn't do anything positive for students' long-term success but does hurt low income students. The real question is why is New Jersey still requiring it when it clearly hurts children and accomplishes nothing good? (fb)
