Repast Ensemble Incorporated

Overview

Repast Ensemble Incorporated is a US-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the appreciation and awareness of Baroque and classical music through various cultural enrichment programs[3]. The organization is home to the Repast Baroque Ensemble, a group known for its unique blend of instrumentation featuring violin, bassoon, cello, and harpsichord[1].

History

Founded in New York City in 2003, Repast has evolved into a vibrant part of the classical music scene. The ensemble has performed at numerous prestigious venues, including the Miller Theatre in New York City and the Getty Center in Los Angeles. They have also hosted concert series and educational workshops across the United States[1].

Artistic Approach

Repast's ensemble, composed of a violinist, cellist, bassoonist, and harpsichordist, focuses primarily on Baroque music. Despite the unconventional instrumentation, they manage to create engaging performances, often by incorporating guest musicians and singers to fill out their sound. Their concerts often feature works by renowned composers such as Bach and Vivaldi[1].

Educational Involvement

In addition to performances, Repast's musicians are committed educators. They have conducted workshops and lecture-demonstrations at various institutions, including the College of William and Mary and Columbia University[1].

Current Activities

Repast Baroque Ensemble is active in presenting themed concert seasons. For example, the 2024-2025 season, titled "Feast Days," celebrates holidays through music with four distinct programs: Harvest Festival, Saint Cecilia's Day, the Ides of March, and Rosalia, incorporating works by Handel, Purcell, and other notable composers[2].

Financial Overview

As reported, Repast Ensemble Incorporated maintains a modest financial profile, with annual revenues around $65,700 and expenses of $64,100 in recent years. Total assets and liabilities are approximately $17,200 and $4,650, respectively[4].

Organizational Structure

The organization operates with a small team of employees and is classified as a music, recreation, and hospitality entity based in Brooklyn, New York[5].
