LEAD Scholarship Foundation – League of Employess of African Descent WHAT IS LEAD SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION. The LEAD Scholarship Foundation is a nationally recognized 501c3 nonprofit charity that was originally founded as the Black Employees Network Scholarship Foundation by a few people who were members of the Merck Black Employees Network BEN Scholarship Foundation Inc. Employee Resource Group EBRG in 2002. Since that time the Foundation has moved outside Merck as its own legal organization in order to work with EBRGs and Affinity Groups from as many different companies as possible in order to provide scholarships and mentoring opportunities to students who have overcome adversity.
