🍯TUESDAY TAKEOVER 🍯 Today, we’re highlighting Good Food Award-winning nut butter makers, @bigspoonroasters! This woman-owned small business has been creating innovative, delicious nut butters & bars since 2011. Big Spoon was born out of the belief that food matters, and that it should be good for the people who eat it, good for the people who grow it, and good for the planet. When our co-founders Mark and Megan met in 2010, they immediately bonded over this shared belief. Big Spoon was also born of a generations-deep love of peanut butter, named after Mark’s dad, Gary—affectionately known for decades as “Big Spoon” by friends and family—due to his habit of snacking on huge spoonfuls of peanut butter. When Mark volunteered with the Peace Corps after college, his host community in Zimbabwe inspired him to take a new approach to his beloved treat, combining the village’s staple of roasted, stone-pounded peanut paste (which they used in a variety of stews and dishes) with a touch of coconut oil, raw honey, and sea salt to create the freshest—and most incredible—peanut butter Mark had ever tasted. Ten years later Mark created the first jars of Big Spoon nut butter in his and Megan’s home kitchen. Mark and Megan began selling these coveted jars and Megan’s homemade energy bars using Big Spoon nut butter at local farmer’s markets, eventually growing into our 16-person business in Hillsborough, North Carolina. We’re thankful for the wonderful community created at @goodfoodfdn and are honored that two of our nut butters—Pistachio Crunch Almond Butter and Lum Lum Thai Curry Peanut & Cashew Butter—have received Good Food Awards!
