We are striving to see every child in the classroom, not on the streets. For 27+ yrs, the Pehli Kiran Schools (PKS) have been providing primary education to out-of-school, street children, especially girls, in marginalized Pakistan communities, to help them become productive members of society. The Pehli Kiran Schools have grown into a network of 10 schools, 4,200+ students, and a staff of 115+, with a 2023 budget of US$250,000. PKS is also registered as a 501c3 tax exempt nonprofit in the US, with the aim of mobilizing resources for the school operations in Pakistan. In 2020, we launched Pehli Kiran Livelihoods (PKL) program, which offers three tracks to PKS Alumni: scholarships for higher education; vocational training & enterprise devt support. This recognizes the critical importance of livelihoods to break out of the vicious cycle of poverty.
