In communities where access is limited and the weight of deeply rooted issues often silences voices before they can rise, creating safe spaces for adolescent girls and women is not just important, it is transformative. These spaces become sanctuaries of possibility, where confidence is nurtured, leadership takes shape, and resilience is born. The One-Day Feminist Conference (OFC) 2025 in Kailali, with the theme 'समताको उज्यालो यात्रा: समावेशी पुस्ताको नेतृत्व' led by Ujyalo Foundation in collaboration with TEWA and Ghodaghodi Municipality, was organized on the 17th of May 2025 in Ghodaghodi Municipality, in Kailali. It was a powerful example of what happens when young girls are trusted with the mic and supported with purpose. From deeply personal stories shared through poster presentations to powerful panel discussions on policy and caste-based challenges, every moment of the conference was a reminder that when young girls, especially from historically marginalized communities, are given a seat at the table, they don't just participate; they thrive. What makes such spaces even more impactful is when people in positions of leadership actively advocate for them. In the conference, Amuda Mishra, Founder and Executive Director of Ujyalo Foundation, emphasized how change also begins in spaces of dialogue and learning, not just on the streets, by bringing adolescent girls and young women to the forefront of important conversations. Her vision for feminist leadership development was echoed by Mayor Khadka Bahadur Rawat of Ghodaghodi Municipality, who affirmed the municipality’s commitment to supporting programs that uplift young girls and enable their growth into confident leaders. Their words, backed by ongoing organizational efforts, reinforced the importance of institutional support in shifting power into the hands of those often left behind.
