The organization is dedicated to promoting academic excellence and scholarship in chemistry among undergraduate students.
History
Gamma Sigma Epsilon was established by Louis P. Good, Manley A. Siske, and Malcolm R. Doubles with the goal of uniting students with high scholastic grades in chemistry. Subsequent chapters included the Alpha Beta chapter at North Carolina State University and the Beta Alpha chapter at the University of Florida. Over time, the society expanded to include chapters across the United States.
Purpose and Mission

Gamma Sigma Epsilon is governed by a National Executive Council composed of elected officers. The society meets biennially for conventions focused on governance, fellowship, and scientific exchange. Local chapters are guided by their own constitutions and are led by locally elected officers. New chapters are approved and installed by the National Executive Council.

As of recent reports, Gamma Sigma Epsilon has chartered nearly 100 chapters throughout the United States. Membership eligibility typically includes requirements such as completing a specified number of chemistry course credits and maintaining a high GPA in both chemistry and overall studies. Members must be majors or minors in chemistry or chemical engineering. The society has inducted over 20,000 members.
Symbols and Traditions
The colors of Gamma Sigma Epsilon are royal blue and white. The society's symbols include the Philosopher's Stone and the balance scale. These symbols reflect the pursuit of knowledge and balance in scientific endeavors.
