Illinois Valley Yacht & Canoe Club

The Illinois Valley Yacht & Canoe Club is a 501(c)(7) social and recreational club located in Peoria Heights, Illinois. It was officially organized in April 1907 and initially known as the Illinois Valley Yacht Club. Following a fire that destroyed the nearby Peoria Canoe Club's clubhouse in 1914, the two organizations merged, forming the Illinois Valley Yacht & Canoe Club[3][4].

The club began as a gathering of boating enthusiasts who shared a passion for sailing and socializing on the Illinois River. One significant event in its history was the construction of a seawall in 1938, following the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' announcement to install a lock and dam below Peoria.
