It’s National Rescue Dog Day! Rescue dogs come in all different shapes and sizes - just look at adoptable Joey and SOS alum Nero here. Some have stories we know while others have pasts that remain a mystery. One thing is for certain - they are the best pups out there! Help us celebrate National Rescue Dog Day by sharing your pups with us and maybe a little story while you’re at it about what they mean to you. Because they sure do mean the world to all of us ❤️ (fb)

Dasha is HOME! We left her off the adoption announcement last week because this girl deserves her very own post. She’s staying put in the home who first welcomed her in as a foster back in August 2024 and has had her for the majority of time since then. They’ve always loved her and enjoyed having her around, and although it was not part of the original plan to adopt her, it became pretty clear recently that Dasha herself had chosen them as her family and their home as her very own. Dasha had numerous fosters and a few trial adoptions over her year in rescue but struggled A LOT each time she transitioned into a new environment. After her last unsuccessful trial adoption a few weeks ago, we went back to speaking with a behavior consultant. It was determined Dasha was likely dealing with canine compulsive disorder (or CCD) in addition to her known anxiety. She has a really busy brain and when things change or she’s forced to deviate from her routine, it’s incredibly hard on her. We as a rescue had super limited options where she could go - only a couple people were willing and able to take her in for short periods of time. She’s not a dog that could be crated and while she does have dog friends, she hasn’t lived in a home with other dogs since living down south. Having access to look out windows was not a sustainable option for her either - all of the movement of critters and people and things going by was simply too much and she had a difficult time coming down from the stress and excitement of it all. Simply put, she’s not one who could thrive in the average home and really most homes in general. The structure/routine, resources and overall stability her foster and now forever family had been providing for her all this time has been life changing for Dasha. She may not have had a chance of a family of her own without their commitment to her and all the love they have for her. Dasha’s days with her family are mostly predictable. They know what she likes and what she doesn’t like, they understand what triggers her and what helps set her up for success each day. We are so incredibly grateful for them for their commitment to her and for loving her for who she is. Dasha continues to enjoy lots of walks, some trips to the park to play with her doggy friends, lots of treats and enrichment toys each day to give her brain an outlet, and all of the comforts of home. She has her special couch she loves to lounge on, a comfy donut dog bed that’s traveled with her since she first arrived in RI, lots and lots of toys. And above all else, Dasha has a family. Her family. #adopted #rescuedog (fb)
