Join us for the final event in conjunction with the Old Type, New Ways exhibition — a conversation with renowned type designer Mark Simonson, followed by a Q&A with Bill Moran, faculty advisor at the UMN College of Design. 📅 Wednesday, April 16 🕔 5:00–6:00 PM CT (Gallery open until 7:00 PM) 📍 McNeal Hall, University of Minnesota Mark will share insights from his celebrated career, including the creation of Konop, a monospaced typeface designed for the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum's Wood Type Legacy Project. After the talk, stay to explore the exhibition and connect with fellow type enthusiasts. This event is free and open to the public. Learn more and register to attend virtually: https://events.tc.umn.edu/event/21170-rescheduled-type-talk-mark-simonson Presented in partnership with the Goldstein Museum of Design. See you there! About Mark Simonson: Mark’s journey began with a childhood fascination with letters—not just as symbols, but as forms with personality. After decades as a graphic designer and art director, he turned to type design full-time in his forties, bringing with him a deep understanding of how designers use fonts. This experience shaped his approach—creating typefaces that are not just beautiful, but highly functional tools for design. He is best known for Proxima Nova, one of the world’s most widely used fonts, seen across BuzzFeed, TikTok, NBC, and more. His other work, including Anonymous Pro and typefaces inspired by Art Deco and 1970s design, reflects his deep appreciation for historical lettering. (fb)
