When we were founded over 15 years ago, any heartworm positive dog was euthanized on intake. They simply didn't have the funding to cover treatment. FOJA was born in 2009 and started covering hw treatment, when it cost around $100 per dog. In 2025, the average expense per dog to treat heartworms is $600! And we don't stop there! From specialty surgeries ($,1000+), to cardiology consultations ($500), to dental work ($750), to kitten milk replacer ($50), to slip leads ($15) - FOJA supports ACPS to make sure the animals are getting all the care they need to be adoptable.
