A sprinkler system prevented a major fire this afternoon in Collegedale. Our department was dispatched to Hawthorne at the Summit apartments at 4:30pm for a fire alarm activation. Upon arrival, it was discovered that an unattended candle caught a towel on fire inside an apartment unit, activating the sprinkler system. The fire was extinguished prior to our arrival, and was contained to the bathroom. No injuries occurred. Two apartment units sustained water damage from this incident. (fb)
