Latinos United for College Education Scholarships (LUCES)

The organization evolved from a group called "Club Mexiquense" formed in September 2005 by Pedro Albiter and a small group of community members in Madison, Wisconsin. Initially focused on addressing community issues, the group recognized the need to empower and support Latino students in pursuing higher education. This led to the establishment of LUCES to offer academic scholarships, particularly targeting low-income Latino students.

Mission and Programs

LUCES aims to bridge the academic achievement gap for minorities by collaborating with local school districts, colleges, and community leaders. It provides partial tuition scholarships based on academic achievement, community service, and financial need. The organization also offers a mentoring program known as "Rising Stars," which pairs recipients with established professionals to provide career guidance, networking opportunities, and support.
