FoAFEM American Friends of AFEm American Friends of theAfrican Federation for Emergency Medicine AFEM is a US registered 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to improving access to highquality emergency care throughout Africa. 1 in 2 deaths in low and middleincome countries are due to causes treatable by Emergency Care yet many countries have no hospitals with emergency departments and most healthcare providers have received no specialized training in Emergency Care. Although emergencies happen everywhere in the world death and disability from these emergencies occur disproportionately in low and middleincome countries. American Friends of AFEM aims to address this inequity by supporting organizations dedicated to strengthening emergency care systems in Africa.
