Living history site that shares the rich, authentic, and diverse cultural history of the early South. Old Salem, Inc. (DBA Old Salem Museums & Gardens) was established in 1950 as a private, nonprofit living history museum to authentically re-create, preserve and interpret Salem, North Carolina, a Moravian congregation town founded in 1766. Old Salem provides a uniquely authentic view of real life and material culture as experienced by settlers of the American South from 1766 to 1866. The experience includes: · Historic preservation of original buildings and structures · Reconstituted landscapes and gardens · Educational programs, interpretation, events & lectures · Galleries & online resources featuring collections & research on southern material culture. Old Salem, a National Historic Landmark accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, welcomes about 400,000 visitors annually.

Regular operations and the administration office are closed for following holidays New Years Day January 1 Martin Luther King Day third Monday in January Memorial Day last Monday in May Junteenth June 19 Labor Day first Monday in September Thanksgiving fourth Thursday in November Christmas Eve December 24th and Christmas Day December 25th.
