The Sanford Brush Palette Club

ADVANCING ARTS TO THE COMMUNITY

Sanford Brush Palette Club

The Sanford Brush Palette Club (SBPC) is a nonprofit organization based in Sanford, North Carolina, dedicated to promoting the visual arts within the community. Founded in 1964 by a small group of local artists, the organization has since expanded significantly, boasting a membership of over one hundred diverse artists.

Mission

The primary mission of the SBPC is to foster an appreciation for the visual arts through various programs, exhibitions, and community involvement. The club seeks to enhance the skills of its members by providing opportunities for artistic development and the exhibition of their work. Additionally, the SBPC is committed to integrating art into the lives of both adults and children in the Sanford community.

History

The inception of the SBPC can be traced back to Elsie Jordan, who, along with her friends, began informal painting sessions in her home during the early 1960s. This group eventually grew, leading to the formal establishment of the club. Over the years, the SBPC has organized numerous art shows and community events, making art accessible to a wider audience.

In 1988, the club became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, thereby expanding its role in supporting visual arts education. One of its most significant initiatives is the "Art Angels for Budding Artists" program, which provides art supplies and services to students in the Lee County school system. Since its launch in 2010, this program has positively impacted over 6,000 students, promoting creative expression and artistic exploration.

Annual Art Show

The SBPC is known for its annual art show, a highlighted event within the local arts calendar that showcases the talents of its members. This event draws significant attendance each year, allowing community members to appreciate a wide array of artistic works. In 2024, the club plans to celebrate its 60th anniversary with a special art show that coincides with Sanford's 150th anniversary, featuring unique categories and honors for local artists.

Community Engagement

In addition to its educational programs and art exhibitions, the SBPC actively engages with the community through various events and outreach programs. These efforts aim to build a supportive network for artists at all stages of their creative journeys while encouraging newcomers to explore their artistic interests in a welcoming environment.

Leadership

The governance of the Sanford Brush Palette Club is overseen by a board of officers and directors, which includes a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, along with several directors who contribute to various aspects of the organization's activities and strategic direction.

As the SBPC continues to cultivate a vibrant arts community in Sanford, it remains committed to its founding principles of fellowship, education, and artistic growth for all its members and the community at large.
