Founded in 1890, we are a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, historic preservation & education. THE VIRGINIA DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVLUTION IS ORGANIZED FOR CHARITABLE AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES TO PERPETUATE THE MEMORY AND SPIRIT OF THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO ACHIEVED AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE BY PRESERVING HISTORIC LANDMARKS AND PROMOTING THE STUDY OF HISTORY; TO CARRY OUT THE INJUNCTION OF GEORGE WASHINGTON IN HIS FAREWELL ADDRESS TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE "TO PROMOTE, AS AN OBJECT OF PRIMARY IMPORTANCE, INSTITUTIONS FOR THE GENERAL DIFFUSION OF KNOWLEDGE" BY PROVIDING SCHOLARSHIPS AND SUPPORTING EDUCATION; TO FOSTER TRUE PATRIOTISM AND LOVE OF COUNTRY BY ENCOURAGING PROPER USE OF THE U.S. FLAG AND SUPPORTING AMERICA'S MILITARY MEN AND WOMEN BOTH ACTIVE DUTY AND VETERANS; AND TO BRING INTO CLOSE RELATIONSHIP THE CHAPTERS OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION IN VIRGINIA THROUGH COMMUNICATIONS AND MEETINGS.
