River Action, Inc.
A vibrant community takes River Action. We foster the environmental, economic, and cultural vitality of the Mississippi River and its riverfront in the QC. Fostering environmental, economic, and cultural vitality of the Mississippi River in the QC. River Action strives to foster the environmental, economic, and cultural vitality of the Mississippi River and its riverfront in the Quad City region. River Action has had many accomplishments over the past 36 years: the lighting of the Centennial Bridge, the Quad City Water Taxi, the Quad City Riverfront Design Principles, and the Quad City Waterfront Master Plan. River Action's Scott County Conservation Consortium and Rock Island County Conservation Consortium provide matching funds to projects taking place at Quad Cities Wild Places sites. The Retain the Rain program educates the public through use of our travelling touchscreen kiosk, and in-the-ground projects such as the first permeable alley in the City of Davenport completed in 2019. River Action also encourages use of the river through our outdoor events. The annual events include the Summer Education Series, Ride and Seek Riverfront Scavenger Hunt, Floatzilla paddlesports festival, Taming of the Slough Adventure Triathlon, and the Senior Citizens Riverfront Golf Cart Tour. River Action also educates the public on current efforts to improve the Mississippi River and mitigate flooding through our Upper Mississippi River Conference and Quad Cities Flood Resiliency Alliance. River Action's largest current project is the construction of a replica span of the First Bridge to cross the Mississippi River, which will serve as a pedestrian bridge. The bridge will give a neighborhood in downtown Davenport safe access to the riverfront and the riverfront trail network over a US highway.
