To preserve the rural heritage of Madison County and surrounding areas through the documentation of the historical barn building traditions and the barns they represent.

Our Mission to preserve the rural heritage of Madison County and surrounding areas through the documentation of the historical barn building traditions and the barns they represent for future generations. Madison County North Carolina just north of Asheville has a rich agricultural history. The countys place in the production of burley tobacco is well known but there are other ways to explore and record our agricultural cultural history.

Appalachian Barn Alliance
The town of Mars Hill has the opportunity to purchase approximately 75 acres adjacent and across Forrest Street from the Smith Farm portion of the Bailey Mountain Preserve. Richard L Hoffman Foundation is once again agreeing to help with this capital campaign. and the Friends of Bailey Mountain Preserve have committed to raising $100,000 of the total price.
