Order of Alba

The Order of Alba is a U.S. nonprofit organization that was established on August 27, 2014. It was incorporated in the state of Virginia on May 6, 2015, and granted 501(c)(3) public charity status by the IRS, effective April 10, 2015.

Objectives and Activities

The Order of Alba is an independent, patriotic, and lineal society. Its name originates from the Gaelic term for Scotland. The organization focuses on several key objectives:

• Conducting historical and genealogical research.
• Perpetuating the memory of the Monarchs of Scotland and bringing together their descendants.
• Maintaining and promoting traditions of chivalry and knighthood.
• Recognizing acts of merit and achievements in the arts, sciences, and letters.
• Inspiring patriotism and loyalty to the United States.
• Collecting and preserving books, documents, and relics related to Scottish monarchical history.

The Order is non-political and non-sectarian, aiming to foster a deep interest in ancient history and genealogy.

Membership and Meetings

The Order meets annually in Washington, D.C., during the Hereditary Society week in April. The inaugural meeting took place on April 12, 2016. The organization is a member of the Council of Scottish Clan Societies (COSCA), which aligns with its mission to promote Scottish heritage and traditions.

Notable Features

As a member of COSCA, the Order of Alba collaborates with other Scottish heritage organizations to promote cultural exchange and historical preservation. Its annual meetings provide a platform for members to engage in discussions, networking, and educational activities related to Scottish history and their personal ancestral connections.
