American Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Institute | sids Site Menu Welcome to the American SIDS Institute Welcome to the American SIDS Institute As a result of efforts by the Institute and other organizations the sudden infant death rate is at an alltime low. However there are still about 3500 sleeprelated infant deaths that occur each year in the US. Our research is aimed at identifying possible medical vulnerabilities that put infants at greater risk for sudden death. We believe that within our lifetime we can find and eliminate the major causes of these deaths.
