First declared in 1933, National Maritime Day commemorates the Savannah’s historic steam-powered Atlantic crossing, a milestone in maritime history. During WWII, over 250,000 U.S. Merchant Mariners served bravely. More than 6,700 gave their lives, hundreds were taken as POWs, and over 800 ships were sunk or damaged. Today, we honor their courage and the vital role our maritime community continues to play. Founded in 2004 as a nonprofit nonpartisan 501c 3 organization the Coalition is among the nations leading charities whose donors provide the wounded veterans and families Learn More Emergency Financial Aid Since 2004 the Coalition to Salute Americas Heroes has provided disabled American veterans from Operations Iraqi Freedom Enduring Freedom and New Dawn with millions of dollars worth of Emergency Financial Aid and support services. Learn More Current Urgent Needs The Coalition receives daily calls and applications from disabled servicemen and women facing financial crises. After a severe injury wounded veterans are not only having to rebuild a new way of life in so many unexpected ways but their families are experiencing real hardships while waiting for their benefits.
