In Episode 3 of Our New South, hosts Kevin Blackistone and Dr. Robert Greene II explored the influence that Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have had on the South—and their lasting impact today. Their guests included Dr. Walter Kimbrough, one of the nation’s most distinguished HBCU presidents, who shared insights on the current state of HBCUs during a historic period of increased enrollment and funding. He also discussed why more young students of all backgrounds are choosing HBCUs over Predominantly White Institutions. Also featured was Dr. Cynthia Neal Spence, Associate Professor of Sociology at Spelman College and Director of the UNCF/Mellon Programs, who spoke about the growing diversity of young women attending Spelman and the school’s mission to educate and inspire future leaders. #LevineMuseum #OurNewSouth #CharlotteNC #CLT #NCHistory (fb)
