Ann Arbor City Club (formerly Ann Arbor Women's City Club)
The Ann Arbor City Club, initially known as the Ann Arbor Women's City Club, is a nonprofit organization based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It was established in 1951 by a group of ten women with the goal of providing a comfortable and congenial space for women's organizations to meet. Over time, the club has evolved to welcome members of all genders.
Mission and Activities
The Ann Arbor City Club is dedicated to enriching the lives of its members and the broader community through various charitable, social, educational, cultural, and service opportunities. The club supports over 20 Signature Groups and Clubs, each focusing on a specific area of interest such as Automobile Appreciation, Book Discussion, Bridge, Genealogy, History, Painting, Poetry, and Travel. These groups meet regularly throughout the year, offering numerous opportunities for members to learn and socialize.
In 2008, the membership voted to change the name from Ann Arbor Women's City Club to Ann Arbor City Club, reflecting its inclusive nature. Today, membership is open to anyone, regardless of residence in Ann Arbor.
Community Events
The Ann Arbor City Club hosts several annual activities and events open to the public, including the Annual Flea Market (March to early April), Classics at the City Club Car Show (May), Annual Home Tour (June), Lunch and Learns (Spring and Fall), and the Annual Art & Craft Festival (December).
Venue and Historical Significance
The club operates from a historic house built in the late 1800s, which is one of Ann Arbor's architectural gems. This elegant home serves as a premier venue for weddings, rehearsal dinners, holiday parties, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, and other special events, contributing to the social fabric of the community.
