A client finishing up his course of treatment at Samaritan Colony wrote the following poem, expressing his thoughts about The Colony. We were really touched and with his permission, we are sharing his heartfelt words. "A Helping Hand" By Chris M. As we arrive cracked and broken Misery surrounds words unspoken Lonely, destitute, trembling with fear Drawn is the breath of a death so near Dark has become day, life turned to night All hope has gone, blind is the sight So we crawl, exhausted and weak Knowing not of that which we seek Suddenly a hand reaches to hold Soft and warm and comforts the cold With help provided we begin to stand Unsure of the footing on this new land One day at a time we come to find Pieces of peace having escaped our mind Reminded of which seemingly lost The prices we paid and those we cost Along comes a joy we begin to know Sweet is the dream planted to grow Inch by inch One Day at a Time Step by step this mountain we climb The Colony the hand, with God as our guide Restoring the light extinguished inside Now as we go, returning to whole Reclaiming a life, reclaiming our soul The night once dark, now littered with stars Shown is the path to what can be ours Written at Samaritan Colony • May 2025 (fb)
