🏳️🌈 Braven proudly celebrates #PrideMonth! 🌈 At Braven, we believe that leadership begins with authenticity–with the courage to show up as your full self and to lead from a place of truth and pride. To our LGBTQIA+ Fellows, alumni, staff, and partners: We see you. We celebrate you. We stand with you. Your identities are a source of strength. Your stories are a force for change. And your leadership is helping build a world where all voices are valued, and all communities can thrive. #BeBraven #PrideMonth (fb)

For Rina Desai, #AAPIHeritageMonth is more than a moment of celebration–it’s a powerful opportunity to reflect on the resilience and stories that shape identity and drive impact. “As a daughter of Indian immigrants, I developed strong values and a deep sense of loyalty to my community early on,” Rina shares. “Watching my parents work tirelessly in multiple jobs taught me the meaning of discipline and dedication–lessons I carry with me every day in my professional life.”Rina’s leadership style is rooted in the same values that shaped her upbringing: empathy, collaboration, and inclusivity. Growing up in a close-knit South Asian community, she learned early on the importance of supporting others and creating spaces where everyone feels they belong. These values are what drew her to Braven–and why she now serves as a Board Member for the Newark region. “As a first-generation college student, I remember how confusing and isolating the college experience felt at times,” she says. “There were moments I felt completely lost. But, finding supportive communities made all the difference. Braven offers that kind of guidance, access, and awareness–something I wish I had earlier in my journey.” During college, Rina developed a strong sense of belonging through her South Asian Cultural Employee Resource Group (ERG), where she played a key role in organizing events that celebrated her heritage and fostered connection. “I’ve always been passionate about building community,” she says. “Whether through cultural events, food, or festivals, these moments helped me stay grounded in my identity—and proud of where I come from.” One of her favorite memories? “The beautiful chaos of growing up in a massive Indian family—cultural festivals, big gatherings, and yes, that one auntie always commenting on your outfit or hair,” she laughs. “It was loud, fun, and full of love. That’s the kind of energy I try to bring into everything I do.” To AAPI Fellows and students, Rina offers this heartfelt message: “Be true to yourself, let your culture shine, and embrace the beauty of your heritage–it’s what makes your story uniquely yours. Embrace the culture of big families, the joyful chaos, and yes, even the with the unsolicited fashion advice. It’s all part of what makes us who we are.” #BeBraven #AAPI #AAPIMonth (fb)
