The organization supports activities like guided tram rides, swamp walks, and the maintenance of the Big Cypress Bend Boardwalk, which allows visitors to experience the untouched beauty of old-growth cypress forests. By participating in these activities or becoming a member, individuals contribute to the preservation of this unique natural and cultural landscape.

The Vanilla phaeantha orchid, commonly known as "oblong-leaf" or "leafy" vanilla, occurs in Trinidad, Cuba, and in the Fakahatchee Strand. (The only confirmed U.S. location!) Though this particular vine does produce a "bean" it is of little edible value, with only a trace amount of the cherished spice. And that only happens if the flower is pollinated during its brief, hours-long bloom. Vanilla orchids can be observed flowering in the Fakahatchee Strand during mid to late spring. Though the flower is large, and extremely beautiful, it is subtle in color and easily overlooked by the casual observer. (Photo credit: T Fabiano) (fb)

The Friends of Fakahatchee, Inc. would like to say Thank You to everyone who helped make our 2024-25 tour season a huge success! Thank you to each and every one of you who attended a tour or event, and brought friends and family along, too. Your support makes all of this possible! Thank you to all of the volunteer guides and drivers for donating your time and talents. You give selflessly for the benefit of the park, and we cannot express our appreciation enough! Thank you to park staff for your support of the Friends' endeavors and for allowing our amazing volunteers to work alongside you to maintain and improve our beautiful Fakahatchee! Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU!!! 😃😍🤩 (Photo by T. Fabiano) (fb)
