From the hands of one world-class surgeon to another, a powerful tool has made its journey—from NYC to Kigutu! When Dr. Barry Weintraub, a renowned plastic surgeon in New York, connected with the incredible team at Kigutu Hospital & Women's Health Pavilion, he saw something special: exceptional talent and deep dedication. He asked our team a simple but powerful question: “What do you need?” The answer? An electric skin dermatome to support the many skin grafts performed in our operating rooms. Dr. Weintraub generously donated this critical piece of equipment, ensuring our skilled surgeons like Dr. Jean Pierre Hamiltong have the tools they need to provide even better care. We are honored, grateful, and excited to put this equipment to work in service of our patients. THANK YOU, Dr. Weintraub, for your compassion and commitment to health equity across borders. 🌍🫶 (fb)

This International Nurses Week, we proudly celebrate the leadership, compassion, and skill of the nursing team at Village Health Works. At our Kigutu Hospital & Women’s Health Pavilion, nurses are at the centre of patient care – delivering not only clinical excellence but also mentorship, emotional support, and a model for community-rooted health equity. In the heart of Kigutu, Burundi, our nurses are more than healthcare providers. They are leaders, educators, and advocates who embody the spirit of compassionate care. Their commitment not only improves patient outcomes but also fortifies the economic and social fabric of our community. At VHW, we recognise that supporting our nurses through adequate resources, continuous education, and emotional support is essential for sustainable healthcare delivery. This year's theme, "Caring for nurses strengthens economies," underscores that vital connection between nurse well-being and the prosperity for all of society. As we celebrate this week, we reaffirm our commitment to investing in our nurses, acknowledging that their strength and compassion are pivotal to building a healthier future for all. #NursesWeek2025 #CaringForNurses #VillageHealthWorks #OurNursesOurFuture #SupportNurses #NursingLeadership (fb)
