Did you know? The Cabbage Patch was an early adopter of integration efforts. The Cabbage Patch served people of color through its Well Baby Clinic dating back to 1927 or earlier, despite racial segregation laws in Louisville. In the aftermath of the landmark 1954 Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision, The Patch moved to formally integrate its operations. On June 14, 1954, The Cabbage Patch board voted to “proceed with a program toward the eventual integration” of African Americans into its programs, well before Louisville city schools desegregated in 1956.
