Description

MiraSol Health, Inc.

MiraSol Health, Inc., formerly known as Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, is a nonprofit organization based in South Carolina. It provides compassionate care and support services for individuals facing serious illness, end-of-life, and grief. With a history dating back to 1982, MiraSol Health has evolved into a comprehensive healthcare provider offering hospice, palliative, and grief care services across Beaufort, Jasper, Colleton, and Hampton counties.

History

Founded on November 16, 1982, as Hospice Volunteers of Hilton Head, Inc., the organization initially focused on providing end-of-life care through volunteer efforts. Over time, it expanded its services, gained Medicare certification in 1993, and adopted the name Hospice Care of the Lowcountry by 1995. This transformation allowed the organization to serve more individuals, including those pursuing curative treatments alongside palliative care.

Expansion and Rebranding

In recent years, MiraSol Health has expanded its services to include palliative care and behavioral health support. The rebranding from Hospice Care of the Lowcountry to MiraSol Health in 2024 reflects its broadened scope of care, encompassing Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, Lowcountry Palliative Care, and Rays of Hope Behavioral Health. This rebranding aims to enhance the organization's ability to communicate its comprehensive approach to community health and wellness.

Programs and Services

MiraSol Health currently serves over 3,200 community members annually, including those receiving hospice and palliative care, as well as individuals benefiting from bereavement and counseling services. The organization is supported by a dedicated team of healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and counselors, along with more than 200 volunteers.

Leadership and Growth

MiraSol Health continues to strengthen its leadership team to support regional growth, recently adding new professionals to key roles such as finance, human resources, and business development. These appointments are part of a strategic effort to expand services and enhance community impact.

Recognition

MiraSol Health has received several awards for its services, including recognition as a Best Hospice Agency multiple times. The organization is committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate care while adapting to the evolving needs of its community.

Mission and Values

At its core, MiraSol Health is dedicated to honoring life by providing comprehensive care and support for those experiencing serious illness, end-of-life, and grief. The organization remains committed to its nonprofit status and the values of compassion, innovation, and community service. The name "MiraSol" reflects these values, symbolizing resilience and renewal through the sun's healing warmth.
